AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY STUDENT ASSOCIATION Dues as a Criteria to Write Examination

AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY STUDENT ASSOCIATION Dues as a Criteria to Write Examination:

An Usurpation of the Students’ Right

It got dawn on me when students were sent back from their examination venues as ineligible candidates because of their defaults in the payment of ACUSA dues.

I saw it as a mere threat when it was announced but its enforcement to the latter, I see as an undue usurpation of the students’ right.

I could recall that the School Management sent a message to parents on the 9th of January, 2019, stating expressly that only payment of the 1st and 2nd Instalments of the School fee would be required to seat for exams. Only for an announcement to be made few days to the exam, stating payment of Acusa due as one of the requirements.

There is no possible convincing defence for this arbitrary decision which was masterminded by those who should represent our interests. I see it as an outright misplace of priority. The first was the increase of the ACUSA fee without prior discussion with the students on their reasons and now this. Please, I want to be sure if being represented comes with impositions. I don't think so, in a democratic setting.

Is  it a Student who is yet to sort his school fees that would have ACUSA fee at his disposal? Some will say, how much is 3,000 naira. Remember, fingers are not equal.

Going by the law, association is voluntary, see sec 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigerian (as amended), and no law in violation of this Fundamental Human Right shall be valid.

I do not intend to invoke the consciousness of the students against the Students’ body but it is always good to be sure of what we signed up for.

This might not make meaning to most students now but I see more arbitrariness in decisions if not timeously contained.

IF ACUSA DOESNT TAKE TIME TO RETHINK #SOMETHINGISCOMINGFORACUSAI AM SAYING IT AND I WILL DO IT
